String Of Pearls

When I was a young man

and things didn’t go my way

I would get upset.

This made me unpleasant

to others, especially those

closest to me.

Now, as an old man,

I still get upset when things

don’t go my way.

But instead of becoming unpleasant,

I horde my feelings until I find

the time to explore them

Because every time something

doesn’t go my way, I have found

a hidden pearl of wisdom

just waiting to be discovered.

And day-by-day my riches grow.
