Thursday, June 28/Ogden Museum (925 Camp Street): New Orleans song writer and story teller, Andrew Duhon will be heading to the Ogden for the after hours on Thursday. Duhon has released three recordings, including “The Moorings,” his sophomore album that was nominated for a Grammy in 2014 for Best Engineered Album. He will be bringing all those musical skills to the Ogden from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Tickets are $13.50, and you can purchase them here.
Thursday, June 28/The Shop at the CAC (900 Camp Street): People don’t often pair acupuncture and business together, but we like to do things creatively in New Orleans. Noell Eanes, M.Ac., licensed acupuncturist and wellness consultant, is coming to the CAC to share tools and takeaways to help make your mind and body work for your business. This dual-part event will focus on the role that mindfulness and movement can play for you and your business. Saturday, June 30/Tipitina’s (501 Napoleon Avenue): “The Lost Set: A Bayou Boogaloo Benefit,” will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Tipitina’s Uptown to benefit the 115 food and art vendors affected by the severe weather.On Friday May 18, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo festival site along Bayou St. John sustained heavy damage and loss of opportunities for sales due to extreme winds and over 3.3 inches of rain, just before the festival opening. Various equipment and tents were mangled or destroyed due to what was later declared by the National Weather Service as a microburst (a small tornado.). The concert will feature The Low End Theory Players (A Tribe Called Quest tribute band), Debauche and Tony Hall‘s Allstars Band which includes Alvin Ford Jr, Ari Teitel, Tillis Verdin, Khris Royal, Renard Poche, Tracy Griffins, Roderick Paulin, Vitas Paukstaitis. Saturday, June 30/The Historic New Orleans Collection (410 Chartres Street): We all know that tourist season is just around the corner and here to stay, so conversations surrounding the effects on locals have been popping up around the city. On Saturday, globetrotting journalist Costas Christ will explore the topic of sustainable tourism at the biennial Jacob Haight and Mary Meek Morrison Memorial Lecture at The Historic New Orleans Collection. The talk, “How Sustainable Tourism is Transforming the Global Travel Industry and What that Means for New Orleans” will take place at 2:00 PM, it is free and open to the public, but they do require registration, which you can do here.
Saturday, June 30/Circle Bar (1032 St. Charles Avenue): If you are looking to sweat through the heat of summer, then head to the Circle Bar on Saturday. Sunday, July 1/Parleaux Beer Lab (634 Lesseps): We love when our favorite things join forces, such as a night of improv, comedy, and beer. On Sunday, your ticket to the show gets you a $1 off pints for the entire night, and the tickets are “pay what you like.” This show will feature local improv troupes, and stand up. Along with a section they call BYOT (Bring your own team), which is an opportunity for anyone who has a team to perform. When I went to visit the Pointe-au-Chien tribe after Hurricane Ida with my Service Learning class, I heard that one of the biggest challenges in the aftermath of the hurricane was finding enough drinking water, so in this article, I explore water purification methods: 1) when they are necessary, 2) how they work, and 3) if they really make your water safe to drink.
