VIDEO: Lyrics Born ‘That’s It!’

California-based rapper/producer Lyrics Born (born Tom Shimura) recently spent time in New Orleans working on his latest album, Real People (produced by Galactic’s Ben Ellman and Rob Mercurio), a thoroughly funk-oriented effort. While working in the Big Easy, Shimura recorded with iconic New Orleans acts such as Ivan Neville, Trombone Shorty, Corey Henry, David Shaw, Galactic, Corey Glover and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. And in true New Orleans spirit. Shimura partnered with not-for-profit organization Oxfam America, crowdfunding the album and donating a portion of the proceeds to Oxfam’s rebuilding projects within the city and gulf region. For the album’s feature single, “That’s It!” — recorded with Preservation Hall Jazz Band — Shimura enlisted in the help of musician Jermaine Quiz of NOLA band Jealous Monk to write and direct a video culled upon New Orleans culture and traditions. View the recently released video below (see if you can spot the New Orleans musicians Shimura cast to be in his video, including: Derrick Freeman(Glen David Andrews), Donald Surtain and Drew Calhoun(Corey Henry’s Treme Funktet) and Matt Clark(Brassaholics).
