Dancing with Miss Helen: With Conscious Intent 9/16/12
With conscious intent I wear the hat
that Helen will recognize as something good.
With conscious intent I remind myself to keep
my expectations low.
I don’t want to be disappointed.
I don’t want to be distracted.
I don’t want Helen to succumb
to the seduction of the mundane.
I don’t want to lose Helen.
This time I needn’t have worried.
This time there was no doubt.
This time she leapt into the music,
took my hand, and took the lead …
We danced in every way possible from chair to chair:
Holding
Tapping
Strumming
Tickling
Rocking
Twisting
Winking
Sighing
Singing
Shouting
Stroking
And we ended with a chaste kiss instead of a dip
with conscious intent.
