The poetic city: “Whirling and Twirling”

Sometimes all we need to do is dance. (Photo: Wiki Media/Morten Rask)

Whirling and Twirling

On the pavement
in a corner of the parking lot
outside Rouse’s supermarket
a little girl whirls and twirls.
About two-and-a-half or three,
she is a whirling dervish of flying curls
and flashing eyes…

…a veritable prayer wheel
flinging sparks of joy into the heavens
as her mother watches smiling,
joined at this very moment
by countless other spinning children
and smiling mothers
all around the world
broadcasting the good news
to anyone out there listening.
