Locally produced, award-winning film is coming to your neighborhood

Laundry Day is one of those rare films shot in New Orleans that is also set in New Orleans and made by New Orleanians.

Shot on location in the French Quarter, Marigny and Bywater, Laundry Day (Summer Hill Films, 2018) boasts an entirely local cast, crew and creative team, including help from film students and graduates from UNO, Dillard, Tulane and Loyola.

Based on a true story of notorious 24-hour dive-bar/laundromat/diner/nightclub Checkpoint Charlie’s, the film takes a non-linear approach to explore a bar fight between a hapless drug dealer, a desperate musician, a homeless street performer, and a mercenary bartender.  On the way, we get to spend a day in their shoes and in their neighborhood.

And now Laundry Day will be coming to your neighborhood – specifically, your neighborhood bar – as the film begins its “Worldwide Bar Tour of New Orleans.”

The tour kicks off Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 PM at Vaughn’s Lounge (4229 Dauphine Street) with a screening and then live music by Lynn Drury, one of the performers who is part of the film’s all-local soundtrack.

Also on the schedule are screenings at Igor’s, Lost Love Lounge, Carrolton Station, and others. All screenings are free and open to the public, and will have cast and crew in attendance. (See below for a full schedule.)

“This will be a fun opportunity for people to immerse themselves in the experience,” says writer-director Randy Mack (Burning Annie, 2017). Laundry Day takes a panoramic view of 24-hour bar life, so watching it in an actual bar is better than IMAX.”

Laundry Day premiered at John Schneider’s Cineflix Film Festival and won the Jury Prize for Best Film. It stars Billy Slaughter (Magnificent 7, Jack Reacher), Kerry Cahill (Midnight Special, The Walking Dead), Dave Davis (Bomb City, True Detective, The Big Short), and Samantha Ann (American Horror Story, The Walking Dead).
