Portrait of a creative space: Patricia Maus

Patricia Maus Studio

When Patricia Maus was in graduate school, a professor told her, “Wherever you have an easel, you have a studio.” Over the years, Patricia has taken that lesson to heart, or canvas as it were.

Today, her easel is set up in the middle of her Old Algiers home. It opens up to the living room, kitchen and pantry. When I asked her if this was a problem, she said, “No, just the opposite. When I’m working on the house or entertaining friends, it’s easy to check-in on works in progress.” To make a change, all she has to do is simply throw on a smock.

According to Patricia, “It’s also nice to have my husband and French bulldog, Jackson around. They’re a great source of feedback, support and inspiration.”

I looked down at Jackson, who seemed to agree.
