UNO documentary: ‘It’s New Orleans Happy Hour’

New Orleans has its fair share of eclectic happy hour deals — free oysters, cheap tacos, half off all wine… and in the case of It’s New Orleans Happy Hour, good conversation.

The 60-minute podcast, hosted by former radio personality Grant Morris, brings three interesting, yet unassociated New Orleanians together — one male, one female and one musician who delivers a live performance — for lively conversation about the city over drinks. “We want it to be like a cocktail party,” says producer Graham daPonte “You end up talking to someone you don’t know.”

“When you walk in to a bar in New Orleans and you pull up a bar stool, you never know who’s going to be sitting on either side of you,” says Morris of the podcast bringing together strangers. “What you do know is no matter what they look like, what they’re wearing, whether they just got out of jail, they’ll be having a talk with you, because that’s New Orleans.”

Larry Devall, a film student in the Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans, recently spoke with daPonte and Morris about the formation of Happy Hour.
