UNO documentary: ‘Shotgun Cinema’

Like the eccentric nature of its inhabitants, local not-for-profit film film organization Shotgun Cinema is an initiative that is based upon uniqueness and variety, educating and expanding NOLA’s film community by showcasing high quality, foreign independent films — in essence forging a connection between New Orleans filmgoers and world cinema. Once a month, Shotgun Cinema invites local audiences to view and discuss a different foreign film, the selections varying in each genre and language each presentation.

“ The idea of having a neighborhood cinema is the idea of growing people directly around it and hopefully bringing more people in,” says Cinema Shotgun co-founder Angela Catalano.

Beal Locke, a film student in the Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans, recently spoke with Catalano and Shotgun Cinema co-founder Travis Bird in a short documentary about the organization’s role in New Orleans’ cinematic culture.
