Online art gallery Where Y’Art founders Collin Ferguson and Catherine Todd are siding with the little guy — and winning.
“Everywhere you look in New Orleans there’s some sort of art … there’s creativity everywhere here,” says Ferguson.
Where Y’Art is an online gallery and marketplace that features emerging and established NOLA artists, whose works range from jewelry to paintings to furniture. The online gallery is curated for quality control, and is host to artists one may not find hanging in galleries around town, but whose art is wholly New Orleanian. Buyers can read short artists’ bios and message them with specific questions about the art.
And Ferguson’s and Todd’s initiative has paid off. In March of this year, the duo won an award for best business at the New Orleans Big Pitch Entrepreneur Week and $30,000 for business expenses.
Ryne Anderson, a film student in the Department of Film and Theater at the University of New Orleans, produced a short documentary about Where Y’Art’s initiative moving local artists from the street to the screen.
The Film and Theatre Department of UNO and NolaVie present this series of short films produced by the students in Laszlo Fulop’s documentary class. Read Renee Peck’s column about the program here.
