Meet: A DIY metalsmithing course. Handmade jewelry and homeware shop Tooth & Nail Trading Co. (3952 Magazine), the recent brainchild of two local jewelry makers who met at Frenchmen Art Market, is offering a four-part metalsmithing class at which participants will learn to saw, solder and form silver, copper and brass, designing and producing custom pieces to take home. The class meets four consecutive Tuesdays, beginning September 9, from 5:45 – 8:15. Registration for the four-week series is $150 + $10 for materials (all supplies and metal provided).

Eat: The brother beer bar to Oak Wine, Ale on Oak (8124 Oak), offers an iteration of a boozy brunch yet to be harnessed in NOLA: the brewski brunch. On weekends, Ale offers a concise but confident brunch menu alongside its expansive selection of brews (and some classic cocktails for the purists). One standout brunch dish is the sweet potato pancake topped with maple bacon and glazed chicken wings ($11).

Drink: The Ube Rum cocktail at Milkfish. Milk punch, sazerac, pimms cup, blah, blah, blah. Though NOLA’s signature drinks are certainly an indispensable aspect of New Orleans culture, locating some dexterity in the local mixology scene is always a welcomed find.

Recently, with the acquisition of their liquor license, Philippine pop-up-turned-restaurant Milkfish (125 N Carrolton) swapped their BYOB status for an unique drink menu. The wallet-friendly and unique cocktail menu ($7 – $9) features an exotic slew of drinks. One menu highlight is Milkfish’s special rum cocktail ($7) comprised of rum ube with coconut milk, jack fruit syrup and soda.

Fete: At Mosquito Supper Club’s pop-up brunches and dinners. A few times a month local farm to table Cajun pop-up Mosquito Supper Club brings its cuisine to quaint Bywater hideout Tigermen’s Den (3113 Royal St). Every second Sunday, from 11AM – 3 PM, the Supper club puts on a no-reservations, pop-up Zydeco brunch (the next of which is set for this Sunday, August 10), featuring live music and seasonal a la carte menus ($5-10) with dishes such as crawfish quiche, boudin and Louisiana crab cakes. Once or twice each month, Mosquito Supper Club also hosts an intimate five-course prix fixe supper at Tigerman’s ($60 per person). Highlights from the August supper menu (set for August 24 and 25 at 7 PM) include pan fried soft shell crabs, shrimp and andouille jambalaya and mulberry dumplings with “pop rogue” ice cream. Wear: Flying Fox’s clear Corrie wristelet. The return of Saints season — excuse me, *football season — means this city is about to see a lot of black and gold and, thanks to the NFL’s position on at-game purses, clear as well.

Local handbag and accessories line Flying Fox — which, in fact, was born from founder Tiffany Napper’s unsuccessful search for a trendy, clear purse she could bring to NFL games — offers seven styles of fashionable clear handbags women can bring to a game without looking like they’re totting a Ziploc freezer bag on strings. Models range form wristlets to mid-size crossbodies to full totes. One of the newest styles is the Corrie ($54), a pyramid-shaped bad with a detachable black leather wrist strap.
