VIDEO: The 9th Ward Opera Company

When Kathleen Westfall realized that many vocal arts students in New Orleans have few opportunities to sing, she created The 9th Ward Opera Company to give them more opportunities; the name is a nod to the part of town in which she lives.

Recently, UNO film student Jeffery Romero talked to Westfall as well as Marigny Opera House director Dave Hurlbert to talk about this unique venue and what happens there.

Read Brianna Smyk’s interview with Hurlbert here, and Sharon Litwin’s interview with Westfall  here.

The Film and Theatre Department of UNO and NolaVie present this series of short films produced by the students in Laszlo Fulop’s documentary class. Read Renee Peck’s column about the program here.
