THURSDAY/ Roll Wave: To aid one of their own who was injured during the Tulane-Tulsa football game, Tulane students and alumni are hosting a fundraising event at Mardi Gras World to support Devon Walker, who is currently recovering from a several spinal cord injury. The event will feature great local cuisine and music and an opportunity to buy t-shirts with Walker’s number, 18, on them to further support the fund. Donations of $20 are requested at the door with the opportunity to give more. 100% of the proceeds benefit the Devon Walker Fund. Mardi Gras World, 1318 Port of New Orleans Place, 8 PM-12 AM, Admission $20.
SATURDAY / So what do you call…: Saturday night at the Howling Wolf, dashTHIRTYdash is hosting a party and fundraiser called Black, White, and Read All Over to commemorate the daily paper and raise money for the laid-off staff. Tickets are $30 at the door, with opportunities to give more (which you should because that’s a clever title with a good cause behind it). With food donated by Galatoire’s, Ralph’s on the Park, Martin’s Wine Cellar, and more and an all-star music line-up, the evening promises to be delicious in true New Orleans-style. Howling Wolf, 907 St. Peters St., 6-9 PM, Tickets $30.
SATURDAY / Puppies and Pints: The Bulldog supports the LA/SPCA with the New Orleans On Tap Beer Festival this Saturday in City Part. Featuring over 200 beers for the sampling, live music, and food, it’s a delicious and fun way to assuage your guilty conscience when the Sarah McLachlan commercial with the sad puppies comes on. But seriously, these animals do need human help, and what a better way to do it than blowing a months-worth of less-than-a-dollar-a-day all on one Saturday afternoon in exchange for microbrews and imports. Sampling tickets are available pre-sale and at the event. City Park, 1-6 PM.
