THURSDAY-SUNDAY / Cooking with gas: The Southern Food and Beverage Museum (SoFAB) presents Hungry in the South, a three day symposium celebrating food. This year’s theme is Science and Technology: Past, Present, and Future. The New Orleans culinary scene has a major showing of all three, making it entirely appropriate. With film, books, and run-downs from the experts, the weekend offers something to the person who sets their microwave on fire making popcorn as well as the seasoned chef (pun intended). Thursday through Sunday, Various locations.

FRIDAY / Ruffin tumble: Live Music Blog: Nola Pick of the Week: Ladies and Gentlemen, head over to One Eyed Jacks in the French Quarter this Friday night to check out the musical presentation by Red Hot NOLA featuring Kermit Ruffins and The BBQ Swingers, Hot 8 Brass Band, and Partners N Crime featuring the Big Easy Bounce Band. This collection of upbeat brass ballers is sure to bring the head-swinging, hip-jiving funk straight to your eardrums, so for those of you seeking a good, old-fashioned New Orleans party, be sure to find yourselves on Toulouse Street this Friday night. Friday, 9 PM. One Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St. $15 GA.

FRIDAY / Kick, push: The May Gallery is having a party to launch their Kickstarter campaign this Friday to raise money for new programming and architectural features. The gallery is dynamic, even by New Orleans standards, by hosting international artists-in-residence, functioning as a studio for dozens of artists, and having a truly architecturally unique space. The party will feature the interactive sound and video installation as well as local musical talent. Friday, 7:30 PM, May Gallery, 2839 N. Robertson St.

FRIDAY / La lumiere Louisiane : The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is hosting a launch party for the publication of A Unique Slant of Light: The Bicentennial History of Art in Louisiana. As Louisiana celebrates 200 years of statehood, this book celebrates its visual and cultural history.  Friday, 6 PM, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 925 Camp St.
