The Poetic City: “Just Passing By”

Dew drops that New Orleanians know very well (photo by: Jon Sullivan)

Just Passing By

An inconsequential drop of dew
Hanging from the tip
Of a cypress branch
Over a placid bayou
Traps a particle of light
As it rides the wave
Of a thermonuclear explosion
Ninety-three million miles away
Transforming the drop
Into a diamond of brilliance
That captures the eye
And enlightens the heart
Of one who happens to be
Just passing by
