Editor’s Note: The first weekend of the citywide musical party that is Jazz Fest was an all-around success thanks to perfect weather and reliably stellar sets from headliners and locals alike. There was no shortage of exceptional talent once the sun went down either, with standout sets from funky newcomers Vulfpeck, keyboard wizard Marco Benevento, and gospel-blues revivalists The Word.
