The poetic city: “Far Happier Than I Ought to Be”

“Far Happier Than I Ought To Be ”

When I think about all the books I will never read,
all the places I will never see, and all the poems
I will never write, I wonder if I am far happier
than I ought to be.

Yet, I glory in the impossibility of doing it all.

Freed from the eternal pursuit of the happiest moment,
I can concentrate all my efforts on what lies before me,
secure in the knowledge that every particular
encompasses the whole.
