Dancing My Funky Tango    5/27/16

Sitting in a corner at the Rose Nicaud

waiting for the line at the coffee counter

to dissipate, I start to think poetry.

It’s been a while since the muse

deigned to dance with me;

and I am at a loss over

what I can do to entice her

back into my embrace.

So I pick a Billy Collins poem at random,

the one he calls “Fool Me Good;”

and I find myself laughing out loud

at the coffee shop…

Laughing at him laughing at himself;

I laugh at me laughing at myself…

Then suddenly I am whirling and twirling,

doing my funky tango with the muse

who seems to love me best

when I finally let go.
