Pet Fangs and Bon Jovi rock the SKC

Justin Timberlake and Madonna famously sang, “4 Minutes.” Nola local’s Pet Fangs got five times that to make an impression on the Bon Jovi crowd and rule the world (aka the Smoothie King Center).

Bon Jovi is in the midst of their This House is Not For Sale tour and is also working to support the local music communities they are playing for. Each location on their US tour will feature local acts. As luck would have it, and with some help from Live Nation New Orleans, they chose up-and-comers Pet Fangs for this task.

Pet Fangs is out on the road with another New Orlean known, Marc Broussard, and when they got the word that Bon Jovi chose them, things evolved very quickly. Not wanting to turn down such a great opportunity, the band flew out of Boston to NOLA and back again without missing a beat.

Pet Fangs call their sound “garage-pop,” and point to a range of influences from Prince to T Rex to Let’s Dance era David Bowi–all of which can easily be heard in their live set. The Smoothie King stage could have been easily daunting for the quartet, but they held their own quite nicely. Running through their twenty minute set with the grace of true pros, the band proved that they were the right choice for the evening.

Then, after a brief intermission, Bon Jovi took to the stage. Their grand entrance was mixed with the energy Pet Fangs left behind, making it a great evening to be held. Jovi started off their set with the title track and blazed (wink, wink) through and impressive back catalogue that in the end would satisfy practically any Bon Jovi fan.
