Baton Rouge micro brewery Tin Roof Brewing will showcase its offerings at a R’evolutionary Beer Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Restaurant R’evolution in the Royal Sonesta Hotel in the French Quarter.
Tin Roof, says R’evolution chef John Folse, “creates new beers based on Louisiana’s spicy flavor profiles. That’s music to a chef’s ears.”
As with its cusine, brewing is a Louisiana tradition. The 1800s were the golden days of beer brewing in New Orleans, with legendary names such as JAX, Regal, Dixie and Falstaff. Before Prohibition, New Orleans brewed more than 230,000 barrels of beer a year, making it the largest brewer of any city in the South, Folse says. Now, with the recent creation of the Louisiana Brewery Trail by Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and the surge of local craft breweries, the brewing trend continues.
The R’evolutionary Beer Dinner begins with Smoked Potato Bisque with Black Truffle and Creole Cream Cheese and Tin Roof Voodoo Bengal Pale Ale, a blend with notes of honey and caramel flavors. The second course of Chanterelle Spätzle with Foie Gras Brown Butter and Rocket Leaves will be accompanied by Tin Roof Blonde Ale. Spice-cured Venison with Sweet Potato Croquette and Parade Ground Coffee Porter Red Eye Gravy will be accompanied by Perfect Tin Amber Ale. And for the finale, Satsuma Chocolate Bar with Satsuma Gastrique and Sel Gris, will be paired with Tin Roof’s limited release of Rougarou Imperial Black Ale. The namesake of this beastly brew derives from the bayou creature of Cajun lore, the Rougarou.
