A midsummer night fete

So, mercury notwithstanding, summer starts Friday — a day later this  year than last.

Why, you ask? Each year the timing of the solstice depends on when the sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator. That takes place either June 20 or June 21, depending on your time zone. This year, for us, that means June 21.

So now that you know summer is officially here, Pearl Wine Company (formerly Cork & Bottle) invites you to celebrate the season’s start with a Midsummer Night’s Social on Thursday night — June 20, officially Midsummer Night’s Eve.

The event includes a five-course tasting by Lionheart Foods (sugar-cane seared tuna, chili-glazed pork tenderloin and mole chocolate mousse, among other delectables), old-world wine pairings and music throughout. And the music will be as special as the menu, with NolaVie’s own Evan Christopher providing the melodies.

All-inclusive tickets are $60, and seating is limited. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Pearl Wine at 3700 Orleans Ave. For more information, visit www.pearlwineco.com or call 504-483-6314.
