The Vie Side: Oyster Eating, Art Projects, Puppetry

FRIDAY / With a firm grasp: This weekend, the handshake isn’t simply an introduction or an easy way to spread the flu. It’s an art project coming to the CAC this Friday in which the goal is to shake hands with as many people as possible for six seconds, the time that it takes for the bonding hormone to be released, imprinting the handshake in clay. It’s an opportunity not only to see art but to be apart of it.

SATURDAY / Every pearl has its oyster: A dozen raw oysters: an easy New Orleans spring lunch. A dozen raw oysters in two minutes: rushed but still doable and delicious. A dozen raw oysters in two minutes topped with extra hot horseradish sauce: a competition, or at least it is this weekend at the Grand Isle Hot Beaver Oyster Eating Challenge. The prize is the tab of oysters and beer covered by Grand Isle and a t-shirt proclaiming the victor as a “Grand Isle Beaver Buster.” Can you handle the heat?

FRIDAY-SATURDAY / Like puppets on a string: Getting tired of all of the Super Bowl hoopla? Go old school and see a puppet show. This weekend at the Marigny Opera House, the Mudlark Puppeteers and workshop participants present an interpretation of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen” set to an original live score. It is a coming of age story about overcoming adversity, a fairy tale helpful at any age.
