The V Side: Horns, cats and quaking shepherds

FRIDAY / LMB:Nola Pick of the Week: Do you like horns? Do you love the way they make you nostalgic for New Orleans nights, for the kind of dancing that only the nearness of the muddy Mississippi can bring to your legs? Well, if the answer is yes (and it should be), you should find yourself at Tipitina’s Uptown this Friday night for Bonerama’s “Down Home for the Holidays” Extravaganza, because there’s nothing better than a trombone-fueled adventure to get the heart and soul ready for the holiday.  Special guests will include Billy Iuso, Reggie Scanlan (Radiators), Irene Sage, and too many more to name them all, so rest assured that the Nola talent will be heavily provided in proper rock-out-dance-away form.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY / I can has tickets?: Need a break from the end of the world hubbub and Christmas music? Stress from the holidays getting you down? The Amazing Acro-Cats are at the Shadowbox Theater this weekend, because what is more stress relieving than watching cats play. Though, to be fair, these cats do more than play. Tuna, the star of the show and band manager, leads the cats as they perform tricks, ride skateboards, even play instruments. This is their last weekend in New Orleans, so go this weekend so Tuna and the Rockcats can wish you a Mewwy Christmas and a Catnippy New Year.

SATURDAY / Shepherds quake at the sight: It’s not Christmas without a Christmas pageant, but this one will not be held at your child’s school or local church. It’ll be with the New Movement Improv Troup, putting their take on the classic. It with certainly not be a “Silent Night”, but “Night Sure to be Filled with Uproarious Laughter” is a little harder to rhyme. I’ll leave the creative caroling to the professionals. The show starts at 8 PM with a holiday party after.

SATURDAY / Reindeer Games: Reindeer are coming to the Fairground Race Tracks this Saturday. To the best of my knowledge, you will not be betting on them, but for the record, my money’s on Dasher. The reindeer will be accompanied during this family friendly event by Santa. There will also be cookie decorating, ornament making, and face painting. Check in with the big man and his steeds before they hit the skies Monday night and get in those last minute Christmas wishes. You may not leave with a big betting pay out, but Christmas cookies are a apt consolation.
