The V Side: Live cinema, a walk for justice and bicycle second line

Cinema Reset opens Saturday at the CAC.

SATURDAY / Put it on my tab: With all there is to see at Art for Art’s Sake this Saturday, one part certainly not to miss is Cinema Reset at the 400 block of Julia Street. Featuring a cinematic installation titled “Have One On Me,” directed by Blake Bertuccelli with video artist Nina Schwanse, this event kicks off an exhibition of experimental film and new media works at the Contemporary Arts Center that will be on display until December 2. Live video will also be streamed from Art for Art’s Sake to the CAC and online.  Saturday, 6 PM, 400 blook of Julia St.  

SUNDAY / Prison blues: Louisiana leads the way in per capita incarceration in the United States, which leads in the world. Incarceration of young people in Louisiana is so common that it has earned its own nickname, “The School to Prison Pipeline.” Family and Friends of Louisiana’s Incarcerated Children, a statewide organization that fights for a better life for Louisiana’s children and advocates for those at risk in the pipeline, is hosting a 5K for Social Justice Sunday, October 7. Enjoy the cool weather and sunshine to support the youths who can’t. Sunday, Registration at 8 AM, $20/adult, Audubon Park.

Bike Easy's Second LineSUNDAY / Bi-line: This Sunday, Bike Easy is sponsoring a bicycle second line ending at Gentilly Fest. Not only do paid cyclists get a t-shirt and refreshments, but they get a safe 8 mile ride escorted by the Pocket Aces Brass Band on what promises to be a cool, beautiful weekend. In case you’re still not convinced, the group is stopping for a mid-way rest at Daddy’s Donuts. Anyone can participate. Donations go towards Bike Easy, an organization dedicated to making biking safer in New Orleans. Sunday, 10 AM-12 PM, $25 suggested donation/adult rider, ride starts at Ponchartrain Park.
