At the launch of our second year, we at NolaVie wanted to learn a bit more about our readers. We already were aware that you come from 103 countries, have great senses of humor, love articulate and thoughtful conversation and share our appreciation of the often weird but always wonderful city of New Orleans.
Now we know more. Our survey indicates that:
— You are 58 percent female and 42 percent male.
— You come in all ages, with an even split between the 26-35 crowd (37 percent) and the 46-55 crowd (35 percent), followed by healthy numbers in the under-25 range (21 percent).
— You live in every neighborhood, though most of you call somewhere within hailing distance of New Orleans home.
— You have great — and diverse — tastes in music, with 74 percent listening to jazz, and a quarter each tuning in to either classical music or rap.
— You party hearty, as all good New Orleanians should do, with top outings running to art shows, Broadway shows, and French Quarter meanderings.
— You can be athletic, with a third opting for yoga or running, although half (51 percent) checked the “I like to drink while watching sports” box.
— You are well educated: 66 percent of NolaVie readers surveyed hold post-graduate degrees.
— You are unencumbered by child care: 93 percent of those surveyed do not have kids.
— You like to visit NolaVie when you are avoiding work (24 percent) and you love the NolaVie newsletter (51 percent of you read it, which compares to a national open-rate average of about 2 percent, so thank you!)
Congratulations to Lindsey Varney, the survey-taker who won the drawing for a pair of tickets to the French Quarter Wine Festival party last weekend.
And finally, in closing, to those who weren’t covered by our multiple-choice neighborhoods, musical tastes or leisure activities, we will get to you next time. Yeah, this time around we were being cute, but we do appreciate all of you who hail from faraway places and spend your time perfecting the Cotton-Eyed Joe.
Just don’t forget to include the Big Easy in your future travel plans.
Thanks to NolaVie’s Tulane University A.B. Freeman School of Business MatchNOLA team for generating and tabulating this survey.
Our survey-takers overwhelmingly liked jazz, but also like to drink while watching sports. So which are you? If you could save EITHER the Preservation Hall Jazz Band or the New Orleans Saints, but not both, which would it be? Answer in the comments section below.
