Evan Christopher

End your French Quarter Festival experience on a high note Saturday with a visit to Cafe Istanbul to enjoy clarinetist Evan Christopher and a stellar group of New Orleans jazz masters as they confidently swing some “good old good ones” into the night.

Nola Art House Music, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising apprection for and awareness of contemporary New Orleans music and musicians, sponsors the Evan Christopher and Clarinet Road Concert in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. The event takes place from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Cafe Istanbul, 2372 St. Claude Ave. The concert, which will be followed by an “international jam session,” also features musicians Matt Lemmler, Don Vappie, Ocie Davis and special guest Chuck Perkins. Admission is $17 ($12 for students and musicians)

To whet your jazz appetite, sample this video of Evan Christopher performing Sidney Bechet’s Petite Fleur with the Pierre Christophe trio. This tribute to Bechet was a part of France’s
2009 jazz award show, “Les Victoires du Jazz,” broadcast on France 3 television.
