Fine arts photographer Jason Kruppa dropped in on a technical rehearsal at NOCCA’s Freda Lupin Memorial Hall to watch the Stephen Petronio Company in action. The local debut of the company, presented by the New Orleans Ballet Association and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, features the title choreographer’s trademark and instantly recognizable style of edgy, fiercely kinetic and emotional dances. For the past 25 years, Petronio has collaborated with provocative luminaries of music, art and fashion, from Anish Kapoor and Cindy Sherman to Rufus Wainwright and Lou Reed.

The Stephen Petronio Company’s 8 p.m. Saturday performance at NOCCA rounds out a trio of appearances this week.
